He dared not look, for fear of being caught.
“…where are you?”
He really wanted to look. The sound of their voice came so close to where he stood. On the other side of the wooden paneling. The occasional creak of a floor board. The very, very faint laughter. He held his breath.
Dead silence. All he could hear was the sound of his own heart. The beat was loud, too loud. Could they hear it? He tried not to move.
“Found you.”
He nearly jumped and they laughed. Turning, he realized they hadn’t even been looking at him until he moved. “Not fair!”
“It’s hide and go seek. What did you expect?”
