When you know before you see

He waited, heart pounding in his chest. She looked over at him with a small smile. “I-it’s okay. This is for you.”

She handed him the box that he grasped in two hands. She shifted, obviously uncomfortable, but urged him on toward the television.

“You’ll probably want to open it there.”

With that, he knew what it was. The box shifted in his hands for a few moments, before he finally decided to put it down, throwing his arms around her instead.

“O-oh! Um, uh… you’re welcome. I… I though you’d like it. I mean, you haven’t opened it yet. But…” She finally stopped stammering and held him back.

Licking his lips, he spoke. “Thank you.”
